Melanie Hall, director of philanthropy for Fort Wayne Community Schools, holds out a box of student-sized masks while a student chooses one on Thursday, September 10, 2020.

Lincoln Elementary School received a donation of over a thousand masks from high-end local retailer Jophiel today for students and staff.

The masks were made by volunteers and staff at Jophiel, which has donated more than 7,000 masks to area schools.

Lincoln principal Claire Paul says she was worried over the summer about how students would handle having to wear masks, but that they’ve done a great job with them.

“Obviously we want to do everything we can to keep our babies healthy and this is an exciting way to do that. They’re clearly very excited about picking out their own masks and so, we’re so blessed that we were a part of this.”

Students didn’t know much about the donation before a group of them came outside to pick their own mask from the provided boxes. The masks came in three sizes for students -- average, large and extra large -- and one size for staff members.
