FWCS Adjusts Remote Schedule for ILEARN Testing

FORT WAYNE COMMUNITY SCHOOLS

Fort Wayne Community Schools announced Thursday that all students in grades 3-8 are required to take the state’s standardized test, ILEARN in person next month.

FWCS has been working on a blended learning schedule for students since returning to schools in the fall of last year. In order to continue to keep up with social distancing, students on the blended learning schedule will learn remotely April 19-23, while remote students will attend in person.

Blended students will return to their normal in-person schedule the following week.

Schools are working to create testing schedules that allow students to be in the building at the same time and plan to use large spaces, like gyms and media centers, to maximize social distancing.

The state requires schools to give the test in person, but earlier this month, Northeast Indiana school superintendents came together to petition the state to change its ILEARN requirements for the 2020-2021 school year.

Nearly 40 superintendents signed the letter to the state, including Fort Wayne Community Schools, Northwest Allen County Schools, East Allen County Schools and Southwest Allen County Schools.
