April 1: COVID-19 Trends Continue In Area, Positivity And Vaccinations Up

Photo Illustration by WBOI

The COVID-19 dashboard for northeast Indiana changed little on Thursday.

Only LaGrange, Noble and Adams counties remain in the state’s best category for community spread, based on 7-day positivity rates and cases per 100,000 residents, according to the Indiana Department of Health.

Wells County is again in the “orange”, the state’s second-worst category. The remainder of northeast Indiana is in the yellow, or second-best category.

The 7-day positivity rate is up to 6 percent in northeast Indiana, a full 2 percent higher than the state overall.

Hospitalizations in the area are down to 50, however, and remain far lower than during the height of the worst of the coronavirus surge late last year.

Statewide mask mandates and other restrictions are set to expire, in spite of concerns raised by federal officials over the risk of increasing COVID-19 numbers.

Indiana’s numbers have slowly climbed upwards in recent weeks, both in 7-day positivity rates and hospitalizations.

Statewide, those between the ages of 20-29 make up 18.3 percent of the COVID-19 infections.

Northeast Indiana totals for April 1:

  • Adams County: 1 new case for 3,338 total. No new deaths for 51 total. 7-day positivity rate at 2.8%. Total of county fully vaccinated 14.9%.
