ACHD Administrator, Mindy Waldron, holds a curtain open to the observation room inside the vaccine clinic at Memorial Coliseum on Tuesday, January 12, 2021.

A new mobile vaccination site opened in McMillen Park Tuesday and will stay there until Saturday.

The clinic is part of the effort to help vaccinate Hoosiers who might otherwise not have the time or opportunity to travel to one of the other mass vaccination sites.

Peggy Hayes from HealthVisions Fort Wayne said the organization has been instrumental in working with the Allen County Department of Health to get sites on the south side of the city.

“And so we want to make sure that we’re covering all the people on the south and central side of Fort Wayne," Hayes said. "So, come out and get your shots because this is important and we just want to make sure that everybody has an opportunity and has access.”

Allen County Health Commissioner Dr. Matthew Sutter spoke about the surplus of vaccines in the U.S., as opposed to countries that are still waiting for shots, and how important it is for Americans to take advantage of the opportunity to get vaccinated.

The mobile unit is set up at McMillen Park on Abbott Street from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m.
