DeKalb, LaGrange, Wells and Wabash counties are all back in the state’s second-best category for community spread of COVID-19.

And northeast Indiana’s 7-day positivity rate is up to 5.5 percent, having been down to 1.7 percent less than a month ago.

LaGrange County remains the most vaccine-resistant county in the state, stuck at 23.1 percent. They are also facing among the fastest-rising positivity rates, now at 9.8 percent.

DeKalb County has the area’s highest positivity rate, at 10 percent. Kosciusko County has the lowest, at 1.6 percent.

There were 107 new cases of the illness reported in the area on Thursday from Wednesday, and no new deaths. Hospitalizations were up to 40 regionally, and up to 443 statewide.

According to the Indiana Department of Health, 46 fully-vaccinated Hoosiers have died due to the virus in what is known as a “breakthrough case.” That number represents 0.002% of those vaccinated.

Nearly 2.9 million Hoosiers have been fully vaccinated against the virus, about 49.6 percent of the eligible population.

Allen County has the highest vaccination rate in the area, at 49.3 percent.
