Three deaths due to COVID-19 were reported in northeast Indiana on Tuesday--two in Allen County and one in LaGrange County.

The area’s 7-day positivity rate is now up to 7.4 percent, the highest since February, according to the Indiana Department of Health.

Indiana saw 1,610 new cases reported Tuesday, also the highest number since February.

There are nearly 1,000 Hoosiers hospitalized with the virus, and those sick with COVID now make up over 10 percent of the state’s ICU beds.

The state’s vaccination total has seen a slight but steady increase in those seeking out the shots, but the percentage of eligible population fully vaccinated remains at just over 50 percent.

On Tuesday, the Delta variant made up about 88 percent of all the new COVID samples collected the previous day, down from 100 percent on Monday.

The number of breakthrough infections, particularly those leading to hospitalizations and death, remain very low, less than 0.2 percent.
