Dec. 15: Northeast Indiana COVID-19 deaths again in the double-digits

Allen County saw four new deaths reported Wednesday, and 334 new cases, according to the Indiana Department of Health.

Northeast Indiana’s 7-day positivity rate stands at 15.7 percent, and there were 11 new deaths reported throughout the area, including Adams, DeKalb, Kosciusko, Wabash, and Whitley counties.

Purdue Fort Wayne is extending its mask mandate through the end of January in the face of rising COVID-19 numbers.

The Purdue Fort Wayne mask mandate extends to all students, faculty and staff indoors, according to a release earlier this week.

The area’s ICU capacity, which includes staffing and equipment, is below 20 percent. Nearly 400 area residents are hospitalized with the illness.

The majority of the cases in Indiana are still involving the Delta variant of the virus.
