Baron Hill Drops Out of US Senate Race

United States Congress

Democrat Baron Hill is dropping out of the race for Indiana’s open U-S Senate seat. In a statement, Hill says his campaign has made progress in the race against Republican Representative Todd Young. But the Democrat says that progress isn’t enough against what he calls the oncoming slew of “special interest” money. Hill says Democrats can win the Senate race if they have a candidate with money and name recognition.

In withdrawing, Hill says he doesn’t want to stand in the way of Democrats winning the state…and the entire U-S Senate. Todd Young (who had beaten Hill in a 2010 Congressional race) had led the Democrat in both fundraising and the polls. The state committee of the Indiana Democratic Party will choose a nominee to replace Hill on the ballot. Reports say former Senator Evan Bayh will step forward in Hill’s place.
