Senator Young Introduces Bill To Spur Technological Innovation

Office of Senator Todd Young)

Senator Todd Young has introduced legislation he hopes will help the United States remain competitive with China.

If passed, the Endless Frontiers bill would invest billions into new areas of research and technology.

According to a summary of the legislation, the bill creates a new directorate for technology and innovation at the National Science Foundation at a cost of $100 billion over five years.

“Things like artificial intelligence and quantum computing, genomics, the very platforms that we'll be able to, to build sectors of the economy,” Young told the Washington Post Live on Tuesday.

The bill designates $10 billion to the Department of Commerce to establish 10 “technology hubs” around the country to be centers for research, development and workforce training.

“We are an information driven knowledge driven economy. Sweat doesn't pay what it used to,” Young said.

Several Republicans and Democrats have signed onto the bill, including Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-New York).
