Fort Wayne City Highlights Infrastructure Projects

The City of Fort Wayne and its Public Works division celebrated National Public Works Week by highlighting several construction projects around the city Wednesday morning.

Specifically, the focus was on a construction project along Hobson Road, a $2.5 million investment to overhaul the stretch of road from Coliseum to Stellhorn on the city’s northeast side, along the Purdue Fort Wayne and Ivy Tech campuses.

The project is part of $28 million in work the city has planned for 2021, according to a release.

The improvement will feature a new configuration with three lanes as well as bike lanes, conversion from concrete to asphalt, new sidewalk infrastructure and more greenspace.

The project is notable not just for being multifaceted but also emphasizes collaboration between city departments, while giving more attention to green infrastructure practices. Another example of a city project like this was the Maysville Road improvement from 2019.

Construction will likely be completed in the summer.
