April 21: Two NE Counties Back In "Orange" For COVID Spread

  Adams, Wells and Wabash counties are in the state’s “safest” category for community spread of COVID-19, while Steuben and Whitley counties are now in the state’s second-worst category.

 

Overall, throughout northeast Indiana, there were 122 cases of the illness reported on Wednesday. The 7-day positivity rate in the area stands at 6.9 percent.

 

The Allen County Department of Health reported an additional five deaths, reconciling the total to the number recorded by the Indiana Department of Health at 672.

 

Allen County reported 55 new cases on Wednesday, and the county’s 7-day positivity rate is at 7.9 percent. 

 

It remains in the yellow, the second-safest category for COVID-19, according to Indiana’s two-prong system, which includes both 7-day positivity and cases per 100,000 residents. 

 

All other northeast Indiana counties are in the yellow, according to the state’s dashboard.

 

There have been 1.6 million Hoosiers vaccinated as of Wednesday.

 

LaGrange County is the only northeast Indiana county with less than 20 percent of its residents vaccinated against COVID-19.

 

NPR reporting in recent days has focused on lags in vaccination rates in both the aging rural populations, andthe Amish. LaGrange County is home to one of America’s largest Amish communities.

Northeast Indiana totals for April 21:

  • Adams County: 1 new cases for 3,382 total. No new deaths for 53 total. 7-day positivity rate 2.0%. County population fully vaccinated 27.8%.
  • Allen County: 55 new cases for 39,467 total. *55 new deaths for 672 total. 7-day positivity rate at 7.9%. County population fully vaccinated 29.3%.
  • DeKalb County: 11 new cases for 4,168 total. No new deaths for 84 total. 7-day positivity rate at 10.3%. County population fully vaccinated 24.7%.
  • Huntington County: 2 new cases for 3,797 total. No new deaths for 80 total. 7-day positivity rate at 4.3%. County population fully vaccinated 31.3%.
  • Kosciusko County: 13 new cases for 9,165 total. No new deaths for 114 total. 7-day positivity rate at 4.8%. County population fully vaccinated 24.0%.
  • LaGrange County: 12 new cases for 2,554 total. No new deaths for 70 total. 7-day positivity rate at 10.0%. County population fully vaccinated 18.1%.
  • Noble County: 10 new cases for 5,436 total. No new deaths for 83 total. 7-day positivity rate at 6.8%. County population fully vaccinated 23.7%.
  • Steuben County: 5 new cases for 3,671 total. No new deaths for 57 total. 7-day positivity rate at 11.6%. County population fully vaccinated 33.8%.
  • Wabash County: 3 new cases for 3,481 total. No new deaths for 78 total. 7-day positivity rate at 2.8%. County population fully vaccinated at 27.4%.
  • Wells County: 2 new cases for 2,868 total. No new deaths for 81 total. 7-day positivity rate at 3.6%. County population fully vaccinated at 27.2%.
  • Whitley County: 8 new cases for 3,822 total. No new deaths for 39 total. 7-day positivity rate at 9.3%. County population fully vaccinated at 28.7%.
