There were 153 new cases of COVID-19 reported in the region on Friday, and one new death, according to the Indiana Department of Health and local health department data.

However, a number of counties are seeing slight declines in 7-day positivity rates, and the state positivity rate has also edged downward in recent days.

According to the Indiana Department of Health, there are 848 Hoosiers hospitalized with the illness, and 77 of those are in northeast Indiana.

The 7-day positivity rate for northeast Indiana is at 6.6 percent, down from 6.9 percent earlier in the week.

Adams County reported no new cases on Friday, and remains the safest county in the area for community spread, according to state data.

The county has a 7-day positivity rate of 1.5 percent, and has 28.5 percent of its population fully vaccinated.

LaGrange County has the worst 7-day positivity rate, at 12 percent, and a fully-vaccinated population of 18.8%, the lowest in the area.

However, the county’s new cases numbers per 100,000 residents are low enough to keep it in the state’s second-best category for community spread.
