April 26: COVID-19 Numbers Start Improving Again

No new COVID-19 deaths were reported in northeast Indiana on Monday, and the area’s positivity rate dropped below 6 percent for the past 7 days.

The state’s 7-day positivity rate also dropped a little, down to 4.8%, according to the Indiana Department of Health.

 

Adams, Wells, and Wabash counties are in the “blue”, the state’s safest category for community spread of COVID-19.

 

Only Steuben and Whitley counties remain in the “orange,” the state’s second-worst category for community spread.

 

The state’s two-tiered system is based on 7-day positivity rates and cases per 100,000 residents.

 

On the vaccination front, the state has now fully vaccinated 1.7 million Hoosiers against the virus.

 

In northeast Indiana, Steuben County has now vaccinated over 35 percent of its residents, and its 7-day positivity rate is down to 9 percent, from over 10.5 percent at the end of last week.

 

LaGrange County’s positivity rate has gone up, to 12.4 percent, and it remains the slowest county for vaccination pace, at only 19 percent. 

 

Northeast Indiana totals for April 26:

 

  • Adams County: No new cases for 3,385 total. No new deaths for 53 total. 7-day positivity rate at 1.1%. Total of county fully vaccinated 29.2%.
  • Allen County: 54 new cases for 39,779 total. No new deaths for 672 total. 7-day positivity rate at 6.3%. Total of county fully vaccinated 32.1%.
  • DeKalb County: 6 new cases for 4,177 total. No new deaths for 84 total. 7-day positivity rate at 10.8%. Total of county fully vaccinated 26.4%.
  • Huntington County: 4 new cases for 3,820 total. No new deaths for 80 total. 7-day positivity rate at 2.7%. Total of county fully vaccinated 33.2%.
  • Kosciusko County: 4 new cases for 9,222 total. No new deaths for 115 total. 7-day positivity rate at 4.2%. Total of county fully vaccinated at 25.2%.
  • LaGrange County: 2 new cases for 2,582 total.  No new deaths for 70 total. 7-day positivity rate at 12.4%. Total of county fully vaccinated at 19.1%.
  • Noble County: 5 new cases for 5,486 total. No new deaths for 83 total. 7-day positivity rate at 5.5%. Total of county fully vaccinated at 25.2%.
  • Steuben County: 7 new cases for 3,734 total. No new deaths for 57 total. 7-day positivity rate at 9.1%. Total of county fully vaccinated at 35.2%.
  • Wabash County: 3 new cases for 3,496 total. No new deaths for 78 total. 7-day positivity rate at 1.7%. Total of county fully vaccinated at 29.1%.
  • Wells County: No new cases for 2,879 total. No new deaths for 81 total. 7-day positivity rate at 2.8%. Total of county fully vaccinated at 28.4%.
  • Whitley County: 9 new cases for 3,869 total. No new deaths for 39 total. 7-day positivity rate at 30.5%.
