Aug. 12: Allen County Courts Talking About Masks Amid COVID Rise

The Allen County courts announced Thursday that judges and magistrates might mandate masks inside the buildings if they deem it necessary as COVID-19 continues to surge, again, in the community.

 

Allen County’s 7-day positivity rate was up to 9.3 percent on Thursday, with 233 new cases reported, according to state and local health department data.

 

Throughout the region, there were 438 new cases reported, among the 3,186 statewide. Those are the highest numbers of new COVID-19 cases since mid-January.

 

There are 1,303 Hoosiers hospitalized with COVID.

 

Northeast Indiana only has 11 percent of its ICU capacity remaining, with more than 20 percent tied up due to COVID patients. About 68 percent of the area’s ICU capacity is in use for other illnesses or injuries.

 

LaGrange County’s vaccination rate has not budged from 24.2 for about a week, while their 7-day positivity rate is now up over 10 percent.

 

DeKalb, Huntington, LaGrange, Steuben and Whitley counties all have 7-day positivity rates over 10 percent.

 

Northeast Indiana totals for Aug. 12:

  • Adams County: 26 new cases for 3,710 total. No new deaths for 56 total. 7-day positivity rate at 4.9%. Percentage of eligible population fully vaccinated 35.6%.
  • Allen County: 233 new cases for 44,923 total. No new deaths for 702 total. 7-day positivity rate at 9.3%. Percentage of eligible population fully vaccinated 52.3%.
  • DeKalb County: 17 new cases for 4,762 total. No new deaths for 87 total. 7-day positivity rate at 12.7%. Percentage of eligible population fully vaccinated 40.2%.
  • Huntington County: 63 new cases for 4,625 total. No new deaths for 82 total. 7-day positivity rate at 12.1%. Percentage of eligible population fully vaccinated 44.5%.
  • Kosciusko County: 17 new cases for 9,944 total. No new deaths for 124 total. 7-day positivity rate at 6.3%. Percentage of eligible population fully vaccinated 39.5%.
  • LaGrange County: 4 new cases for 2,820 total. No new deaths for 73 total. 7-day positivity rate at 10.4%. Percentage of eligible population fully vaccinated 24.2%.
  • Noble County: 15 new cases for 6,173 total. No new deaths for 92 total. 7-day positivity rate at 7.5%. Percentage of eligible population fully vaccinated 38.9%.
  • Steuben County: 7 new cases for 4,220 total. No new deaths for 62 total. 7-day positivity rate at 11.9%. Percentage of eligible population fully vaccinated 44.4%.
  • Wabash County: 24 new cases for 3,848 total. No new deaths for 84 total. 7-day positivity rate at 5%. Percentage of eligible population fully vaccinated 39.4%.
  • Wells C0unty: 17 new cases for 3,141 total. No new deaths for 81 total. 7-day positivity rate at 6.7%. Percentage of eligible population fully vaccinated 41.3%.
  • Whitley County: 14 new cases for 4,338 total. No new deaths for 45 total. 7-day positivity rate at 13.1%. Percentage of eligible population fully vaccinated 42.8%.
