Fort Wayne Mayor Tom Henry has COVID-19, city officials announced Tuesday afternoon.

That makes the fully-vaccinated mayor one of the 45,756 cases of the virus reported in Allen County.

He is reportedly working from home and suffering only mild symptoms of the virus.

Six additional COVID deaths were reported in the area on Tuesday, including three in Allen County and one each in Steuben, Noble and Huntington counties.

There were 342 new cases reported in the area, where there are now about 21 percent of the ICU beds occupied by COVID patients.

Seven area counties are showing 7-day positivity rates well over 10 percent, double the rate deemed safe for community spread by the WHO.

The highly-infectious Delta variant remains the most common among the tested samples over the past 30 days.

Steuben, DeKalb, Allen, Whitley and Huntington counties are all in the orange for COVID spread. The state’s second-worst category on the dashboard is determined by cases per 100,000 residents and 7-day positivity rates.
