Aug. 25: Five New COVID Deaths Reported, ICU Capacity Below 10 Percent

Northeast Indiana has less than 10 percent of its ICU capacity left as of Wednesday due to the continued spread of COVID-19 in the region.

And officials with Parkview Health Network said the surge of COVID cases has caused a strain on hospitals in their network, which is in most northeast Indiana counties.

 

There were 697 new cases of the disease reported in the area on Wednesday, with five new deaths. The area’s 7-day positivity rate held at 11.4 percent.

 

Deaths were reported in Kosciusko, Noble, Steuben and Wabash counties. No area county but LaGrange saw less than 20 new cases reported Wednesday, and Allen County saw 315 new cases.

 

Statewide, the numbers continue to climb as well, with more than 5,000 new cases reported and hospitalizations now up to 2,048, according to the Indiana Department of Health.

 

The highly-contagious Delta variant makes up 97.6 percent of all new COVID cases diagnosed over the past few weeks.

 

There were 7,586 new fully-vaccinated Hoosiers reported on Wednesday as the number of those receiving their shots inched upward. 

 

Only LaGrange County remains in the state’s second-best category for the spread of the virus, based on 7-day positivity rates and cases per 100,000 residents.

 

Northeast Indiana totals:

  • Adams County: 21 new cases for 3,958 total. No new deaths for 60 total. 7-day positivity rate at 7%. Eligible population fully vaccinated 36.2%.
  • Allen County: 315 new cases for 47,589 total. No new deaths for 713 total. 7-day positivty rate at 12.7%. Eligible population fully vaccinated 53.6%.
  • DeKalb County: 32 new cases for 4,985 total. No new deaths for 89 total. 7-day positivity rate at 9.6%. Eligible population fully vaccinated 41.1%.
  • Huntington County: 89 new cases for 5,242 total. No new deaths for 85 total. 7-day positivity rate at 11.6%. Eligible population fully vaccinated 45.5%.
  • Kosciusko County: 42 new cases for 10,249 total. 1 new death for 127 total. 7-day positivity rate at 7.7%. Eligible population fully vaccinated 40.8%.
  • LaGrange County: 5 new cases for 2,881 total. No new deaths for 73 total. 7-day positivity rate at 12.6%. Eligible population fully vaccinated 24.6%.
  • Noble County: 42 new cases for 6,478 total. 1 new death for 95 total. 7-day positivity rate at 9.8%. Eligible population fully vaccinated 39.7%.
  • Steuben County: 36 new cases for 4,443 total. 1 new death for 64 total. 7-day positivity rate at 11.3%. Eligible population fully vaccinated 45.3%.
  • Wabash County: 48 new cases for 4,143 total. 2 new deaths for 86 total. 7-day positivity rate at 10.3%. Eligible population fully vaccinated 40.1%.
  • Wells County: 28 new cases for 3,333 total. No new deaths for 81 total. 7-day positivity rate at 11.3%. Eligible population fully vaccinated 42%.
  • Whitley County: 39 new cases for 4,564 total. No new deaths for 47 total. 7-day positivity rate at 9.8%. Eligible population fully vaccinated 44.4%.
