Aug. 7: ICU Capacity Below 10 Percent Due To COVID

There is less than 10 percent of the area’s ICU capacity remaining due to the ongoing surge in COVID-19 patients.

 

More than 30 percent of the area’s most critical care beds are full of COVID patients.

Allen County has now exceeded 50,000 diagnosed cases of the illness, and has seen 728 residents die from the virus.

There were 159 new cases reported in Allen County on Tuesday, according to state data.

Only Adams and LaGrange counties have less than 40 percent of their eligible population fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Allen County leads the region with nearly 55 percent of its eligible population fully vaccinated. Steuben has the next highest rate at 45 percent, according to the Indiana Department of Health.

LaGrange County is finally at 25 percent, the lowest total in the state. Adams County has 37 percent of its population fully vaccinated.

The area’s 7-day positivity rate is holding steady around 11.4 percent.

 

Statewide, there were 2,863 new cases reported Tuesday. No new deaths were added.

Northeast Indiana totals:

  • Adams County: 3 new cases for 4,201 total. No new deaths for 63 total. 7-day positivity rate at 7.9%. Eligible population fully vaccinated 37%.
  • Allen County: 159 new cases for 50,459 total. No new deaths for 728 total. 7-day positivity rate at 11.1%. Eligible population fully vaccinated 54.9%.
  • DeKalb County: 17 new cases for 5,342 total. No new deaths for 89 total. 7-day positivity rate at 14.8%. Eligible population fully vaccinated 42%.
  • Huntington County: 14 new cases for 5,681 total. No new deaths for 88 total. 7-day positivity rate at 11.2%. Eligible population fully vaccinated 46.5%.
  • Kosciusko County: 14 new cases for 10,745 total. No new deaths for 131 total. 7-day positivity rate at 12.5%. Eligible population fully vaccinated 41.7%.
  • LaGrange County: 8 new cases for 2,993 total. No new deaths for 73 total. 7-day positivity rate at 10%. Eligible population fully vaccinated 25%.
  • Noble County: 24 new cases for 6,962 total. No new deaths for 98 total. 7-day positivity rate at 12.8% Eligible population 40%.
  • Steuben County: 14 new cases for 4,659 total. No new deaths for 64 total. 7-day positivity rate at 7.6%. Eligible population fully vaccinated 46%.
  • Wabash County: 21 new cases for 4,548 total. No new deaths for 87%.  7-day positivity rate at 13.5%. Eligible population fully vaccinated 41%.
  • Wells County: 13 new cases for 3,597 total. No new deaths for 82%. 7-day positivity rate at 13.2%. Eligible population fully vaccinated 42.9%.
  • Whitley County: 7 new cases for 4,921 total. No new deaths for 48%. 7-day positivity rate 16.2%. Eligible population fully vaccinated 45.3%.
