On Monday, the Indiana Department of Health announced the discovery of the new variant of the coronavirus that causes COVID-19.
That strain, first detected late last year in the UK, spreads more easily and state health officials are urging continued mask usage and social distancing.
In northeast Indiana, 16.1 percent of the ICU capacity is available, with 241 patients hospitalized with COVID-19.
Deaths were reported on Monday in Whitley, LaGrange and Steuben counties. Positivity rates are about 10 percent in every northeast Indiana county with the exception of Wabash County.
The 7-day positivity rate is above 20 percent in DeKalb, Kosciusko, LaGrange, Steuben and Whitley counties.
The state has vaccinated 217,259 individuals for the illness, according to state data.
Northeast Indiana COVID-19 totals for Jan. 11:
- Adams County: 13 new cases for 2,866 total. No new deaths reported for 35 total. 7-day positivity rate at 10.8%.
- Allen County: 142 new cases for 30,835 total. No new deaths reported for 512 total. 7-day positivity rate at 15.2%.
- DeKalb County: unknown new cases for 3,312 total. No new deaths for 71 total. 7-day positivity rate at 20.1%.
- Huntington County: 18 new cases for 2,754 total. No new deaths for 55 total. 7-day positivity rate at 11.3%.
- Kosciusko County: 17 new cases for 7,631 total. No new deaths for 75 total. 7-day positivity rate at 20.8%.
- LaGrange County: 8 new cases for 2,185 total. One new death for 61 total. 7-day positivity rate at 21.1%.
- Noble County: 17 new cases for 7,631 total. No new deaths for 56 total. 7-day positivity rate at 17.8%.
- Steuben County: 20 new cases for 2,956 total. One new death for 40 total. 7-day positivity rate at 23.6%.
- Wabash County: 12 new cases for 2,803 total. No new deaths for 45 total. 7-day positivity rate at 7.7%.
- Wells County: 1 new case for 2,181 total. No new deaths for 45 total. 7-day positivity rate at 16.5%.
- Whitley County: 18 new cases for 2,787 total. One new death for 24 total. 7-day positivity rate at 20.9%.
