Significant changes have been announced related to city and county government meetings as Northeast Indiana continues to grapple with the COVID-19 coronavirus.
In compliance with the federal recommendation that gatherings of 10 or more people should be avoided, Fort Wayne City Council has adjusted its calendar for the next two months.
Meetings through April will now be held every two weeks instead of weekly. While the meetings will still take place in the lower level of Citizens Square, citizens are strongly suggested to watch them from home on the city’s website, channel 58 on Comcast or channel 28 on Frontier.
No public comments will be taken at any meetings through April 28, either. Instead residents are asked to submit comments to the City Clerk’s office no later than the Friday before the meetings.
As a result of these changes, tonight’s meeting has been canceled. Any resident questions for Council’s meeting on March 24 should be submitted by Friday.
In addition, Fort Wayne’s Neighborhood Code Compliance Office has elected to suspend hearings until May 3. Payments to the office and penalties associated with the hearings will be suspended until that same week.
The Office of Housing and Neighborhood Services has also postponed its annual Fair Housing Summit, which was scheduled for April 29 at the Allen County Coliseum. A new date will be chosen and registrants will be notified by email.
And a series of four community workshops for the All In Allen Comprehensive Plan -- which aims to update the guiding blueprint for shared community projects in the county -- have been rescheduled for May.
But the planning team remains active online, and is seeking community input from Allen County residents related to the comprehensive plan. An online questionnaire can be found and completed at AllInAllen.org.
