The City of Fort Wayne announced a partnership with Catholic Charities Thursday that aims to offer identification cards for populations facing challenges obtaining them.
Mayor Tom Henry announced it will be established via executive order, following communities like South Bend, Goshen and Elkhart which have established similar programs.
The cards will assist individuals with tasks like accessing City of Fort Wayne services where identification is required. Schools and hospitals in other communities where this program exists have also accepted this form of ID.
A card for adults age 18 to 64 is $25, while youth and senior cards will cost $20.
Henry calls it a “proactive effort to recognize all citizens in our community and demonstrate respect, value, diversity, and inclusion.”
Catholic Charities will serve as the fiscal agent and issuer of the cards.
