Fort Wayne Partners With Consulting Firm For Homelessness Study

Rebecca Green/WBOI News

The City of Fort Wayne is partnering with the consulting firm Homebase with the goal of evaluating the state of homelessness in the city and developing a strategic plan.

Homebase is a non-profit agency dedicated to preventing and ending homelessness, and has partnered with cities nationally to help them gain a clearer picture into root causes and potential solutions.

The funding for the partnership comes from federal CARES Act dollars.

The City Office of Housing and Neighborhood Services will work with Homebase to assess the current resources and shelters available to Fort Wayne’s homeless population. After that, Homebase will draft up its action plan with the goal of providing services to people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless based on best national practices.

Homebase’s work is projected to take nine months, after which there will be two public presentations on the strategic plan.
