Fort Wayne Seeking Resident Input On "Placemaking" Draft Plans For Southeast

Following a year and a half of planning and public workshops, Fort Wayne residents are able to view a rough draft of the city’s southeast "placemaking" proposals.

Improving infrastructure and development on the southeast quadrant of Fort Wayne has been an issue for a long time. It reclaimed the spotlight during the 2019 mayoral race, when both Mayor Tom Henry and Republican candidate Tim Smith acknowledged the need to address long-standing concerns to the area.

The placemaking initiatives are intended to complement or highlight assets existing throughout the area.

The strategic plan’s goal is to identify key development sites; cultivate charm, neighborhood pride, and ownership; create southeast quadrant attractors, gathering spaces, and community relevance; untap potential opportunity areas for growth, attraction, and development; and generate beautification, identity, and sense of place.

The plan was developed as a partnership between the City of Fort Wayne’s Planning & Policy Department, Sixth District City Councilwoman Sharon Tucker, and the Southeast Area Partnership.

Residents can view the plan online at the Southeast Strategy website. Community input is encouraged and will be accepted now through January 13, 2021 by emailing southeast@cityoffortwayne.org.
