Fort Wayne resident, Jim Pickett, is a retired school teacher with a passion for local history he has channeled into a short, extensively researched, historical thriller about the 1790 Battle of Kekionga.
The book is called "The Bones of Kekionga," and offers a "you were there" perspective on this slice of history from pre-Fort Wayne, in what's now the Lakeside area.
Pickett's current work as driving instructor keeps him in touch with the very streets that are built on the city's rich heritage, and he continues to marvel at the tales they tell.
The work is written for all ages, young adult and older, and his lectures and presentations on the topic have a wide appeal.
Last week, WBOI's Julia Meek sat down with Jim to learn his motivation for the project, and how he managed to bring the story, as well as its setting, to life and ready for its readers to experience.
