July 19: Delta Variant Now Majority of New COVID Cases

The highly-contagious Delta variant of COVID-19 now makes up 74.2 percent of all new COVID cases in Indiana.

 

That number is up more than 48 percent since last month, according to the Indiana Department of Health.

 

In Indiana on Monday, there were 285 new cases reported and a statewide 7-day positivity rate of 4.8 percent.

 

Throughout northeast Indiana, there were 45 new cases reported and the area’s positivity rate for the past 7-days is now at 6.4 percent.

 

No new deaths were reported in the area, and there were 32 area residents hospitalized due to the illness throughout northeast Indiana.

 

Statewide, hospitalizations were at 493.

 

LaGrange County’s vaccination rate stands, still, at 23.2 percent, the lowest in the state. The county’s positivity rate is also among the worst, at 12 percent.

 

Allen County nears 50 percent for vaccination totals, and the county’s positivity rate stands at 6.5 percent for the past week.

 

Nearly 2.9 million Hoosiers have been fully vaccinated so far.
