June 2: Four COVID Deaths In NE Indiana

Four new COVID-19 deaths were reported in northeast Indiana on Wednesday, including two in Allen County.

There were 42 new cases of the illness reported in the area, and the 7-day positivity rate stands at 3.8 percent.

 

Statewide there were 282 new COVID cases reported, and the state’s 7-day positivity rate is at 4.5 percent.

 

On the state’s dashboard showing the dangers of community spread, there are now four counties back in the second-best category for COVID spread, with Kosciusko, DeKalb, Whitley and Steuben in the yellow.

 

The remainder of the area is in the “blue” or the best category. The rating is based on cases per 100,000 residents and 7-day positivity rates.

 

Positivity rates have trended slightly upwards in some area counties over the past two or three days, according to the Indiana Department of Health.

 

The area’s best positivity rate is Adams County at 0.5 percent, and the worst is DeKalb County at 6.2 percent.

 

The vaccine rate in LaGrange County has barely budged in a month, stuck at about 21 percent of the county’s eligible population. 

 

There are 46 individuals in the region hospitalized with COVID-19.

 

Northeast Indiana totals for June 2:

  • Adams County: 1 new case for 3,446 total. No new deaths for 55 total. 7-day positivity rate 0.5%. Total of eligible population fully vaccinated 31.8%.
  • Allen County: 18 new cases for 41,606 total. 2 new deaths for 685 total. 7-day positivity rate 3.8%. Total of eligible population fully vaccinated 42.8%.
  • DeKalb County: 3 new cases for 4,400 total. No new deaths for 85 total. 7-day positivity rate at 6.2%. Total of eligible population fully vaccinated 36.7%.
  • Huntington County: No new cases for 4,004 total. 1 new death for 81 total. 7-day positivity rate at 5.3%. Total of eligible population fully vaccinated 42.7%.
  • Kosciusko County: 8 new cases for 9,578 total. 1 new death for 118 total. 7-day positivity rate at 5.6%. Total of eligible population fully vaccinated 33.9%.
  • LaGrange County: No new cases for 2,719 total. No new deaths for 72 total. 7-day positivity rate 4%. Total of eligible population fully vaccinated 21.6%.
  • Noble County: 7 new cases for 5,753 total. No new deaths for 85 total. 7-day positivity rate 3.9%. Total of eligible population fully vaccinated 32.5%.
  • Steuben County: 3 new cases for 3,955 total. No new deaths for 59 total. 7-day positivity rate 4.6%. Total of eligible population fully vaccinated 41%.
  • Wabash County: 2 new cases for 3,591 total. No new deaths for 82 total. 7-day positivity rate at 5.5%. Total of eligible population fully vaccinated 35.2%.
  • Wells County: No new cases for 2,940 total. No new deaths for 81 total. 7-day positivity rate at 1.5%. Total of eligible population fully vaccinated 36.7%.
  • Whitley County: No new cases for 4,035 total. No new deaths for 40 total. 7-day positivity rate at 5.3%. Total of eligible population fully vaccinated 40.8%.
