March 2: COVID-19 Positivity Rates Continue To Decline

As Indiana opens up its vaccination program to those 55 and over, 7-day positivity rates for COVID-19 continue to decline around the state and northeast Indiana.  

 
The 7-day positivity rate in northeast Indiana is now at 5 percent. The WHO recommends a positivity rate of 5 percent or less for 14 days before reopening is considered.
 
Indiana’s overall 7-day positivity rate is at 3.6 percent.
 
There were seven new COVID-19 deaths reported in northeast Indiana on Tuesday, with four in Allen County. Other deaths occurred in Huntington, Kosciusko and Whitley counties.
 
Allen County’s 7-day positivity rate is now down to 4.8 percent. The highest 7-day positivity rate in northeast Indiana is in Steuben County, with 8.5 percent.
 
There are 58 residents of northeast Indiana hospitalized with COVID-19, and 765 statewide.
 
In Indiana, the largest share of the population infected with COVID-19 remains those between the ages of 20-29 with 18.2 percent. 
 
In northeast Indiana, as has been the case for much of the pandemic, the most-infected age group is those between the ages of 50-59, at 16 percent.
 
Northeast Indiana totals include:

  • Adams County: No new cases for 3,235 total. No new deaths for 49 total. 7-day positivity rate at 5.5%.
  • Allen County: 37 new cases for 35,989 total. 4 new deaths for 637 total. 7-day positivity rate at 4.8%.
  • DeKalb County: 6 new cases for 3,894 total. No new deaths for 75 total. 7-day positivity rate at 7.1%.
  • Huntington County: 14 new cases for 3,457 total. 1 new death for 77 total. 7-day positivity rate at 5.6%.
  • Kosciusko County: 5 new cases for 8,567 total. 1 new death for 111 total. 7-day positivity rate at 2.6%.
  • LaGrange County: No new cases for 2,409 total. No new deaths for 70 total. 7-day positivity rate at 4.8%.
  • Noble County: 5 new cases for 5,097 total. No new deaths for 78 total. 7-day positivity rate at 3.4%.
  • Steuben County: 5 new cases for 3,388 total No new deaths for 55 total. 7-day positivity rate at 8.5%.
  • Wabash County: 4 new cases for 3,318 total. No new deaths for 76 total. 7-day positivity rate at 3%
  • Wells County: 1 new case for 2,583 total. No new deaths for 75 total. 7-day positivity rate at 6.5%.
  • Whitley County: 1 new case at 3,495 total. 1 new death for 37 total. 7-day positivity rate at 7.5%.
