March 4: Area Hospitalizations Due To COVID At Lowest Level In Five Months

Newly-diagnosed COVID-19 cases jumped up to over 900 statewide on Thursday, to 961, but the 7-day positivity rate declined a bit more to 3.4 percent.

 

In northeast Indiana, there were 108 new cases diagnosed, and one new death reported in DeKalb County.. The 7-day positivity rate declined again as well, down to 4.6 percent.

 

No new cases were reported in Wells County. Only Huntington and Allen counties saw new COVID-19 numbers in the double digits.

 

COVID-19 hospitalizations are down in the region to 56, the lowest number since Sept. 12. Statewide, there are 692 individuals hospitalized with the illness, the lowest number since July.

 

Steuben County has the highest 7-day positivity rate in northeast Indiana, with 6.8 percent. Kosciusko County has the lowest, with 2.5 percent. 

 

About 9 percent of Indiana’s 6.7 million residents are fully vaccinated. On Wednesday, the state opened the vaccination program to Hoosiers over the age of 50. 

 

Teachers are eligible to receive COVID vaccines through the federal program at various pharmacies.

 
Northeast Indiana totals for Thursday: 

  • Adams County: 8 new cases for 3,247 total. No new deaths for 49 total. 7-day positivity rate at 4.9%
  • Allen County: 54 new cases for 36,100 total. No new deaths for 638 total. 7-day positivity rate at 4.6%.
  • DeKalb County: 7 new cases for 3,906 total. 1 new death for 76 total. 7-day positivity rate at 6.1%.
  • Huntington County: 11 new cases for 3,473 total. No new deaths for 77 total. 7-day positivity rate at 5.5%.
  • Kosciusko County: 8 new cases for 8,582 total. No new deaths for 111 total. 7-day positivity rate at 2.5%.
  • LaGrange County: 4 new cases for 2,418 total. No new deaths for 70 total. 7-day positivity rate at 3.4%.
  • Noble County: 6 new cases for 5,105 total. No new deaths for 78 total. 7-day positivity rate at 3.4%.
  • Steuben County: 3 new cases for 3,395 total. No new deaths for 55 total. 7-day positivity rate at 6.8%.
  • Wabash County: 3 new cases for 3,326 total. No new deaths for 76 total. 7-day positivity rate at 2.6%.
  • Wells County: No new cases for 2,586 total. No new deaths for 75 total. 7-day positivity rate at 4.8%.
  • Whitley County: 4 new cases for 3,502 total. No new deaths for 37 total. 7-day positivity rate at 7.0%.
