March 8: COVID-19 Hospitalizations At Lowest In Northeast Indiana

With 52 residents of northeast Indiana hospitalized due to COVID-19, the area hit its lowest rate for hospitalizations on Monday since last April.

 

According to the Indiana Department of Health, statewide hospitalizations are at their lowest since early July, with 635.

 

Two additional deaths were reported in the region due to COVID-19 on Monday, and an additional 62 cases were reported.

 

The 7-day positivity rate for COVID-19 in northeast Indiana is at 4 percent, and statewide is down to 3.1%.

 

DeKalb, Steuben and Whitley counties have the highest positivity rate in northeast Indiana, with 7-day rates of 6, 5.6 and 5.2 percent respectively.

 

Allen County’s positivity rate for the past seven days stands at 4.1 percent. Kosciusko County’s stands at 2.3 percent. Neither LaGrange or Kosciusko counties reported new cases or deaths on Monday.

 

Saturday marked the one-year anniversary of the discovery of the first case of COVID-19 in Indiana. 

 

In the 367 days since then, the pandemic has claimed 12,315 Hoosier lives among the 667,736 infections reported.

 

Northeast Indiana totals for March 8:

  • Adams County: 7 new cases for 3,270 total. No new deaths for 49 total. 7-day positivity rate at 4.6%.
  • Allen County: 38 new cases for 36,310 total. No new deaths for 638 total. 7-day positivity rate at 4.1%
  • DeKalb County: 2 new cases for 3,884 total. No new deaths for 78 total. 7-day positivity rate at 6%.
  • Huntington County: 5 new cases for 3,513 total. No new deaths for 77 total. 7-day positivity rate at 4.9%. 
  • Kosciusko County: No new cases for 8,600 total. No new deaths for 111 total. 7-day positivity rate at 2.3%. 
  • LaGrange County: No new cases for 2,426 total. No new deaths for 70 total. 7-day positivity rate at 2.8%. 
  • Noble County: 2 new cases for 5,140 total. No new deaths for 78 total. 7-day positivity rate at 2.9%. 
  • Steuben County: 2 new cases for 3,406 total. 1 new death for 56 total. 7-day positivity rate at 5.6%. 
  • Wabash County: 1 new case for 3,340 total. No new deaths for 76 total. 7-day positivity rate at 2.5%.  
  • Wells County: 1 new case for 2,592 total. 1 new death for 76 total. 7-day positivity rate at 3.5%. 
  • Whitley County: 4 new cases for 3,528 total. No new deaths for 38 total. 7-day positivity rate at 5.2%.
