May 26: Improving COVID Numbers Leads To Mask Requirement Changes In Fort Wayne

Fort Wayne officials announced Wednesday that masks would no longer be required in municipal buildings after June 1. Allen County issued a similar release concerning county-old buildings.

 

They cited the continued drop in COVID-19 cases and ongoing vaccinations as the reasons for moving the mask mandate from July 4, according according to press releases.

No new COVID-19 deaths were reported in northeast Indiana on Wednesday, from Tuesday. There were only six deaths reported statewide.

 

According to the state dashboard, only Noble and Steuben counties remain in the state’s “yellow” category for community spread. The two-part metric score is made up of cases per 100,000 residents and 7-day positivity rate.

 

The rest of northeast Indiana is in the “blue”, the state’s best category for community spread.

 

Vaccination rates around the area have slowed or nearly stalled, inching up in same cases by 1/10th of a percentage point or less.

 

LaGrange County remains the slowest to see its population fully vaccinated, with 21.2 percent fully inoculated against the virus.

 

There are 67 residents of northeast Indiana hospitalized due to the virus, according to the Indiana Department of Health.

  • Adams County: No new cases for 3,438 total. No new deaths for 55 total. 7-day positivity rate 2.3%. Percentage of eligible population fully vaccinated 31.5%.
  • Allen County: 36 new cases for 41,437 total. No new deaths for 683 total. 7-day positivity rate 4.6%. Percentage of eligible population fully vaccinated 41.5%.
  • DeKalb County: 8 new cases for 4,387 total. No new deaths for 78 total. 7-day positivity rate 5.2%. Percentage of eligible population fully vaccinated 35.6%.
  • Huntington County: 2 new cases for 3,985 total. No new deaths for 80 total. 7-day positivity rate 2.6%. Percentage of eligible population fully vaccinated 41.9%.
  • Kosciusko County: 12 new cases for 9,546 total. No new deaths for 117 total. 7-day positivity rate 33.2%. Percentage of eligible population fully vaccinated 33.2%.
  • LaGrange County: 1 new cases for 2,705 total. No new deaths for 71 total. 7-day positivity rate 5.3%. Percentage of eligible population fully vaccinated 21.2%.
  • Noble County: 4 new cases for 5,728 total. No new deaths for 85 total. 7-day positivity rate 5.1%. Percentage of eligible population fully vaccinated 31.8%.
  • Steuben County: 3 new cases for 3,943 total. No new deaths for 57 total. 7-day positivity rate 7.5%. Percentage of eligible population fully vaccinated 40.6%.
  • Wabash County: 7 new cases for 3,578 total. No new deaths for 81 total. 7-day positivity rate 2.4%. Percentage of eligible population fully vaccinated 34.4%.
  • Wells County: 1 new case for 2,936 total. No new deaths for 81 total. 7-day positivity rate 2.2%. Percentage of eligible population fully vaccinated 35.8%.
  • Whitley County: 3 new cases for 4,024 total. No new deaths for 40 total. 7-day positivity rate 5.4%. Percentage of eligible population fully vaccinated 39.7%.
