NACS To Host Legislative Forum On Education

FILE

Northwest Allen County Schools will facilitate a legislative forum between local residents and lawmakers at Carroll High School’s auditorium Thursday night at 7 pm.

Parent ambassadors for the district, known as “Charger Advocates,” helped set up the event, and thus far four local state legislators have committed to participating:

  • Senator Liz Brown
  • Senator Dennis Kruse
  • House Minority Leader Phil GiaQuinta
  • Representative Bob Morris

Three topics will be discussed: the nuances of state funding for schools, accountability in state testing, and the long-term view of public education. Each will be discussed for 30 minutes, with a Q&A after each topic.

The conversation will be moderated.

The goal of the discussion is to let parents and residents know about state education policy goals for the 2020 session and beyond, while creating a “constructive, two-way dialogue” between government officials and the community.

Residents interested in attending are asked to enter through Door 1 for closest access to the Carroll auditorium.
