Northeast Indiana COVID Positivity Nears Five Percent

As Indiana vaccinated its 1 millionth resident, COVID-19 positivity rates around the region dropped to almost 5 percent for the past seven days. 

That means northeast Indiana is nearing a rate for community spread not seen since late September, according to the Indiana Department of Health.

 

Three new deaths were reported in the area on Monday--in Allen, Kosciusko and Wells counties. 

 

Only 79 new cases of the illness were reported in northeast Indiana on Monday.

 

Six area counties had 7-day positivity rates of less than 5.5 percent. Only Allen County saw a double-digit increase in new cases, according to health department data.

 

There are 62 residents in northeast Indiana hospitalized with the illness, among the 763 hospitalized around the state.

 

ICU capacity in the area is at 33.8 percent. 

 

The counties most at risk for community spread remain Steuben, Whitley and Huntington.

 

Northeast Indiana numbers include:

  • Adams County:  4 new cases for 3,235 total. No new deaths for 49 total. 7-day positivity rate at 5.1%.
  • Allen County:  56 new cases for 35,952 total. 1 new death for 633 total. 7-day positivity rate at 5.4%.
  • DeKalb County:  1 new case for 3,852 total. No new deaths for 78 total. 7-day positivity rate at 6%.
  • Huntington County:  5 new cases for 3,444 total.  No new deaths for 76 total.  7-day positivity rate at 6.1%.
  • Kosciusko County:  2 new cases for 8,562 total. 1 new death for 110 total.  7-day positivity rate at 2.9%.
  • LaGrange County:  No new cases for 2,408 total. No new deaths for 70 total. 7-day positivity rate at 4.8%.
  • Noble County:  3 new cases for 5,093 total. No new deaths for 78 total. 7-day positivity rate at 3.7%.
  • Steuben County:  2 new cases for 3,383 total. No new deaths for 55 total. 7-day positivity rate at 9.9%.
  • Wabash County:  3 new cases for 3,314 total. No new deaths for 76 total. 7-day positivity rate at 2.9%.
  • Wells County:  No new cases for 2,582 total. 1 new death for 75 total. 7-day positivity rate at 7.1%.
  • Whitley County:  3 new cases for 3,494 total. No new deaths for 36 total. 7-day positivity rate at 8.3%.
