In northeast Indiana, there have been about 36,727 residents over age 60 fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Earlier this week, the Indiana Department of Health opened up the COVID-19 vaccine to those between the ages of 60 and 69.

They joined those older, as well as first responders and health care workers among those getting the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccines.

On Thursday, three new deaths due to the illness were reported, but area positivity rates for the past 7-days held steady at about 6 percent.

There are 82 residents of northeast Indiana hospitalized with COVID-19.

Statewide, the 7-day positivity rate is at 4.1 percent, and there are 40 counties in the “blue” for the spread of the illness. “Blue” represents the state’s most favorable rating for spread, based on 7-day positivity rates and cases per 100,000 residents.

Three area counties are in the “blue”--Kosciusko, LaGrange and Adams counties. Only Whitley and Huntington counties are in the “orange,” the state’s second-worst rating.

All other area counties are in the “yellow,” the middle rating.

Across Indiana, there are 889 individuals hospitalized with the illness, the lowest number since Sept. 24.
