The Allen County Public Library board of directors voted to authorize bonds needed to move forward with the library’s facilities transformation project on Thursday.
The vote was held after the second of two determination hearings to discuss the proposed cost of the project, which was formally received at the first hearing on April 22.
The board authorized bonds in the amount of 98.5 million dollars. Based on the median homestead value in Allen County, homeowners would see an increase of one dollar and 90 cents in taxes per month. Commercial properties taxes would increase by three dollars and 35 cents per month.
The library will contribute 26.5 million dollars, or 21 percent of the cost, to the project.
Community members were welcome to come and ask questions and offer feedback during the hearing. Both the hearing and the meeting are available on the ACPL’s youtube channel.
