Alternative TROY School's Music Program Rocks On
For the last twenty-one years, Columbia City's TROY School, an accredited, independent, nonprofit school for grades six through twelve has been offering teens a chance to succeed, and develop hope for the future.
TROY is an acronym for Teaching and Reaching Our Youth, and serves students that may have no other chance to succeed from Whitley county, as well as the surrounding Allen, Huntington, Noble, and Kosciusco counties.
And thanks to a scholarship from the Aaron M. Stone Memorial Fund, Aaron, an eighteen year old musician who died of cancer a little over a year ago, will live on in spirit through the school's "Rock On!" music program.
Aaron's father, Michael Stone, representing the Memorial Fund, stresses that he and his wife, knowing what a difference music made in Aaron's life, wanted to keep his memory and spirit alive with an interactive relationships that would benefit organizations that worked with kids not as fortunate as Aaron was.
Here's a quick tour of the user-friendly Music Room at TROY School:
WBOI's Julia Meek invited Mike, and Troy's executive director, Nicole Trier, into the studio to discuss the mission of both the school and the Memorial Fund, and depth of the partnership, and the impact such a generous collaboation holds for all.
