Eighty years ago, Orson Welles shocked the nation with a Halloween spoof, announcing an alien invasion over the radio airwaves, and beginning tomorrow, the University of Saint Francis is bringing that story back to the limelight with its stage production of "War of the Worlds: The Panic Broadcast."
This radio play within a radio play is a salute to that form's golden age, showcasing the skills of the Foley artists of that day, and the excitement of live studio broadcasts as it retells the story of that infamous evening onstage.
Last week, WBOI's Julia Meek sat down with director, Brad Beauchamp and lead actor, Caleb Meyer, to talk about the impact of the show that started it all, its place in broadcasting history and what fear can do to a society.
