New Icons Inspire Congregation At St. Nicholas Orthodox Church

Credit Ben Clemmer
Icons, explains Father Andrew, are literal interpretations of scriptures, in pictures rather than in words.

Fort Wayne's St. Nicholas Orthodox Church will be celebrating Christmas in an especially meaningful way this year, thanks to the completion of phase one of its new icon project.

For a first-hand look at the results, WBOI's Julia Meek visited the church a couple of weeks ago, and talked with parish priest, Father Andrew Jarmus, about the scope of the artwork, the meaning behind it, and its impact on the congregation.

You can find more information about St. Nicholas Orthodox Church and its Icon Project at its website.

A Fort Wayne native, Julia is a radio host, graphic artist, and community volunteer, who has contributed to NIPR both on- and off-air for forty years. Besides being WBOI's arts & culture reporter, she currently co-produces and hosts Folktales and Meet the Music.
