Record Store Day Spins Big Celebrations for Local Music Lovers

The 12th annual Record Store Day is this Saturday, and here in Fort Wayne, that's music to every audiophile's ears.

Since its first appearance in 2008, the holiday has been focused on celebrating the culture of the independently owned record store, and has grown from a U.S. based event in a handful of stores with ten special releases to a truly global affair involving thousands of stores, with more than three hundred releases, no genre left behind, in the United States alone.

Besides the shopping frenzy, and all-night campouts to insure a good place in that Saturday morning shopping line, the family-friendly day lends itself to live music performances, artist meet & greets, and creative fundraising for local charities and non-profits.

Earlier this week, WBOI's Julia Meek lured Bob Roets of Wooden Nickel Records, and Neat Neat Neat Records and Music's Morrison Agen away from their preparations for the big day and into the studio to talk about this year's attractions, the holiday's growth around the world, and the cultural impact this annual celebration is accruing.
