#GivingTuesday 2019

89.1 WBOI is joining another #GivingTuesday movementGivingTuesday was launched back in 2012 as a simple idea: to create a day that encourages people to do good. Over the past seven years, this idea has grown into a movement that inspires millions of people from all over the world to give back to their communities.

GivingTuesday is all about harnessing the collective power of individuals to make the world a better place. So, for this year’s GivingTuesday, we want to share a special program that’s making a difference in our community – it’s called New Generation Media.

https://vimeo.com/342634466/845f9b23ab">New General Media (NGM) is a youth-based program that teaches media and storytelling skills to students from Fort Wayne Community Schools. While NGM students are learning how to produce their own audio stories, podcasts, and journalistic interviews, they're also learning how to navigate today’s rapidly expanding media climate.

Throughout this school year, the NGM students are working on stories focused on topics they care about, including: teen mental health, drug education, concussions in sports, today's young voters, and growing up in a single-parent household. To help amplify our community’s young voices, 89.1 WBOI will feature a selection of NGM stories on our station and website. Click here to hear more about this program from this year's NGM students.

When you choose to give to 89.1 WBOI, this is the kind of work you’re supporting. WBOI is not just another radio station. It’s a community resource dedicated to creating a more informed public and sharing stories that enrich our perspectives.

When should I participate? GivingTuesday is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, following trends like Black Friday and Cyber Monday but, with an emphasis on holiday giving, not shopping. This year’s GivingTuesday will kick off on December 3rd, but you can give anytime.

We hope you’ll consider supporting public radio this GivingTuesday. Tune in on December 3rd to hear some special reasons to give back on GivingTuesday that allow your impact to go even further.

You can pay it forward even more during this year's GivingTuesday by making your gift in honor of a loved one. When you give $50 to WBOI on GivingTuesday (or anytime before the end of the year), you can request the Pay It Forward package which includes:

  • a unique holiday greeting card made locally at the HEDGE
  • a special bag of Morning Edition anniversary blend coffee roasted locally at Conjure

Give this gift to someone special to let them know you donated to public radio on their behalf! To see more details about this holiday package, click here.
