City Council Approves Contracts, Paving Way For Riverfront Construction

Fort Wayne’s riverfront development project is ready to break ground after clearing its final hurdle during City Council Tuesday night.

Council members unanimously approved $16 million worth of construction contracts for the first phase of riverfront development.

Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation Director Al Moll says Tuesday’s approval from City Council allows for construction to begin on time.

“It’s funded, we’ve got the property, we have the contracts approved, now it’s just a matter of hoping we don’t have any issues we’re not aware of, but we don’t envision that happening,” said Moll.

Moll predicts ground will be broken on the north bank July 15, with demolition of the properties on the south bank beginning by the final week of August. He hopes to see the project completed no later than spring 2019.
