Update at 1:15 April 13 An additional two individuals in Allen County have died from COVID-19, and the total number infected in Allen County is now at 165.
A dozen Allen County residents have died from COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, and the number of individuals who have tested positive has climbed to 156.
The Allen County Health Department is partnering with the Indiana Department of Health to establish a drive-through testing clinic for health care workers, first responders and essential workers displaying symptoms of COVID-19.
The clinic will be held Monday through Friday, April 17 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the parking lot of the IvyTech Community College, 3800 N Anthony Blvd.
According to the health department, participants must be Indiana residents and should bring a driver’s license or other state-issued identification card and documentation of place of employment. Tests will be conducted as long as supplies last and will be limited to one individual per vehicle. Only symptomatic individuals will be tested. The most common symptoms of COVID-19 are fever, tiredness and dry cough.
On Friday evening, first responders from around northeast Indiana paid tribute to health care workers at Parkview Regional Medical Center. The event was organized by Tyler Burns, EMS Captain at Washington Township Fire Department.
“We just wanted to show our support to the hospital staff, all the health care workers, the doctors and nurses, and to let them know that we’re all fighting the same fight," Burns said. "We’re all on the same team. We’re here for them, like they’re here for us.”
Nearly 8,000 Hoosiers have tested positive, and 343 have died, according to the Indiana Department of Health.
