Municipalities Eye Reopening As Coronavirus Counts Continue Climb

More than 500 residents of Allen County have now been infected with the novel coronavirus, and 41 have died.

With a total of 514, the numbers locally continue to climb, even as state officials contemplate a soft reopening of the economy at the end of the week.

Noble County, which has had outbreaks of COVID-19 in area long-term care facilities, also recorded additional deaths on Tuesday. Nine residents have now died from the disease caused by the virus, and 58 people have been infected.

But as the end of April draws closer, area municipalities are tentatively planning to reopen for business, even if only a little bit.

Columbia City announced a phased re-opening for city offices, including the resumption of city business meetings throughout the month of May. Public access to those meetings will be only available by videoconferencing.

Columbia City City Hall will remain closed to the public until June, available only by appointment.
