Northeast Indiana’s overall 7-day positivity rates remain lower on Friday, continuing a recent trend in improving COVID-19 numbers around the state.

One death was reported in Allen County on Friday, bringing the county’s total of COVID-19 deaths to 564, according to state and local data.

Whitley County is again the highest for positivity in the region, with a 7-day rate of 16.5 percent, and remains in the “red” by the state’s metrics for COVID-19 spread.

There are only five counties in Indiana that are “red” on the state’s dashboard.

Two area counties--Wells and Adams--are now in the “yellow” zone for community spread of the virus. Blue is the least-risky designation.

ICU capacity in northeast Indiana is at 24 percent, with 133 residents of the area hospitalized due to COVID-19.

The Bowen Center is offering a vaccine registration assistance hotline to help those eligible complete their COVID-19 vaccination process. The hotline is available at (574)347-4256, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday.

So far Indiana’s vaccination program is available only to those Hoosiers 70 and older, as well as long-term care residents, first responders, and eligible healthcare workers.

Nearly 519,000 Hoosiers have been vaccinated as of Friday.
