Allen County Health Department officials are asking area residents who may have signed up for vaccine appointments in various locations to free some up.
As eligibility has expanded, and people are shopping around for open vaccination appointments, some may have signed up in multiple locations for vaccines to get into an open slot.
If you have done so, cancel the ones you don’t need. Allen County officials report dozens of individuals not showing up for their appointments in recent weeks, tying up time that could be easily allocated to others in need of the vaccine, officials said Friday.
Anyone with an appointment scheduled at the Allen County Health Department's site at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum can call 260-449-7722 and leave a voicemail with their full name, date of birth, phone number, and the date and time of the appointment they need to cancel.
Vaccination rates continue to move upward throughout the area, with five area counties attaining at least 20 percent of their population vaccinated. Two additional counties are at 19 percent, according to the Indiana Department of Health.
However, positivity rates continue to go up as well, and since Wednesday, there has been five new deaths due to COVID-19 reported in northeast Indiana.
Hospitalizations are also up locally, and around the state.
While the numbers are still far below the mid-winter surge of COVID-19, 7-day positivity, hospitalizations and other metrics have slowly crept up since early March.
