May 17: COVID Numbers Improve

COVID-19 positivity rates are sliding down again around Indiana, including in northeast Indiana which is now at 5 percent after the weekend.

Just under 40 percent of the state’s vaccine-eligible population is now fully-inoculated against the virus, and some area counties are offering the vaccines through their health departments along with other regular vaccinations.

 

There were 62 new cases reported in the area on Monday, and no new deaths. There are 69 area residents hospitalized due to COVID, according to the state department of health. 

 

Allen County now has had more than 41,000 residents diagnosed with the virus, according to the Allen County Health Department.

 

Statewide, there are 810 people hospitalized with COVID. The state’s 7-day positivity rate is at 4.9 percent.

 

Steuben County remains the area’s “hottest” for COVID spread, still in the state’s second-worst category on the advisory dashboard based on 7-day positivity rates and cases per 100,000 residents.

 

Kosciusko, Adams and Wells counties are in the state’s best category. The rest of northeast Indiana is in the second-best category.

  • Adams County: 1 new cases for 3,427 total. No new deaths for 55 total. 7-day positivity rate at 1.6%. Percentage of eligible population fully-vaccinated 30.6%.
  • Allen County: 33 new cases for 41,099 total. No new deaths for 678 total. 7-day positivity rate at 5.3%. Percentage of eligible population fully-vaccinated 38.6%
  • DeKalb County: 1 new case for 4,342 total. No new deaths for 85 total. 7-day positivity rate at 5.7%. Percentage of eligible population fully-vaccinated 32.6%.
  • Huntington County: 2 new cases for 3,944 total. No new deaths for 80 total. 7-day positivity rate at 4.3%. Percentage of eligible population fully-vaccinated 39.2%
  • Kosciusko County: 3 new cases for 9,466 total. No new deaths for 117 total. 7-day positivity rate at 2.7%. Percentage of eligible population fully-vaccinated 31.1%
  • LaGrange County: 1 new case for 2,689 total. No new deaths for 70 total. 7-day positivity rate at 9%. Percentage of eligible population fully-vaccinated  20.3%.
  • Noble County: 9 new cases for 5,659 total. No new deaths for 84 total. 7-day positivity rate at 5.2%. Percentage of eligible population fully-vaccinated 29.6%.
  • Steuben County: No new cases for 3,910 total. No new deaths for 57 total. 7-day positivity rate at 9.1%. Percentage of eligible population fully-vaccinated  39.8%.
  • Wabash County: 1 new case for 3,553 total. No new deaths for 80 total. 7-day positivity rate at 2%. Percentage of eligible population fully-vaccinated 33.1%.
  • Wells County: No new cases for 2,920 total. No new deaths for 81 total. 7-day positivity rate at 2.4%. Percentage of eligible population fully-vaccinated 34%.
  • Whitley County: 8 new cases for 3,987 total. No new deaths for 39 total. 7-day positivity rate at 5%. Percentage of eligible population fully-vaccinated 35.8%.
