Nov. 1: COVID-19 numbers continue retreat in state, area

Screenshot of the Indiana Department of Health

No northeast Indiana county remains in the red as the area’s COVID-19 rates continue to decline.

The area’s 7-day positivity rate is down to 8.6 percent, having been at nearly 10 percent about a week ago, according to the Indiana Department of Health.

Wells County is now in the yellow, the state’s second-best category for COVID-19 spread.

The remainder of the area is in the orange, the state’s second-worst category.

The categories are based on cases per 100,000 residents as well as 7-day positivity rates.

There were 239 new cases reported in the area on Monday from the weekend, and no new deaths.

Hospitalizations have ticked up slightly in the area, to 181. Statewide, the number is down to 1,297, the lowest number since early August.

Nearly 58 percent of eligible Hoosiers are fully vaccinated, though the number of those receiving their booster shots far outweigh those receiving their first doses of the COVID vaccine.

Indiana surpassed 16,000 confirmed deaths last week, but health officials are preparing to vaccinate those between ages 5 and 11 once approved.
