Students in their turkey masks line up behind painted turkey bodies in preparation of letting out their best gobble in the Harrison Hill Elementary auditorium on Wednesday, November 24, 2021.

Harrison Hill Elementary School held its annual Gobble-Off today, giving kids a chance to show off their best turkey gobble and win some Thanksgiving staples.

The annual Gobble-Off has been a tradition at Harrison Hill for more than 30 years, but they had to skip it last year due to COVID restrictions.

This year, the kids didn’t hold back in giving their all for the opportunity to be crowned the best gobbler by their peers.

Harrison Hill principal Shannon Rodgers said it’s a day everyone at the school looks forward to.

“It allows us to be a little bit silly," she said. "So, it’s just an awesome tradition that kids look forward to year to year to year.”

The winner is chosen through applause from the rest of the students and this year it came down to a tie for second place, resulting in one final round of gobbling. Students wear turkey masks fashioned from paper bags as they compete to remain anonymous during voting.

First place received a frozen turkey to take home for Thanksgiving and runner up received a frozen pumpkin pie.
