Update at 9 p.m.
Allen County and Noble County issued Winter Travel Warnings late Wednesday afternoon, banning travel for all but emergency vehicles.

All other counties in northeast Indiana except for Steuben County, remained at a Winter Weather Watch, allowing only essential travel. Steuben County remained at advisory status.

As of 8:30 p.m., snow totals from around the area ranged from 3 to more than 6 inches. According to the National Weather Service, snow totals were expected to pick up on Thursday for areas south of U.S. 24.

And schools, government offices, and other organizations were already announcing closures for Thursday.

Fort Wayne Community Schools, the Allen County Public Library, Allen County government, and the City of Fort Wayne have announced closures for Thursday.

The Allen County courts are also closed, according to a release.

The Indiana Department of Health has announced additional closures for late Wednesday and into Thursday of all COVID-19 testing sites.

Indiana/Michigan Power was preparing for additional outages late Wednesday and into Thursday as the heavy, wet snow freezes and the winds pick up.

The Indiana Department of Transportation Northeast division is encouraging residents to avoid unnecessary travel this evening.

The department posted on twitter they have more than 130 trucks currently out on roadways. They warn to expect delays and plan to slow down and leave extra stopping distance.
