The Indiana Association of Public School Superintendents announced Northwest Allen County’s superintendent as the Superintendent of the Year Monday.
The IAPSS made the announcement honoring Wayne Barker via Twitter.
Barker began at NACS in July, following a nationwide-search to replace previous superintendent Chris Himsel.
Before coming to NACS, Barker was named IAPSS’ District II (two) Superintendent of the Year.
On Twitter, Barker said he is “humbled” by the recognition, but “awards for superintendents are because of incredible school board members, teachers, support staff, & admins that work together as great teams” to serve students.
Before coming to NACS as an administrator, Barker was the superintendent for School City of Mishawaka.
Earlier in his career, he had taught business classes at Carroll High School.
