Steuben, Whitley and Noble counties are a whisker away from ending up back in the “orange” on the state’s COVID-19 dashboard, according to recent data.

Indiana ranks counties for community spread for the virus using a two-pronged metric that includes cases per 100,000 residents and 7-day positivity rates.

The highest ranking, or “blue” ranking is a score from zero to 0.5. Yellow, the next best rank, are scored between 0.5 and 1.5.

Those three northeast Indiana counties are at 1.5 with scores predicted to rise, according to the Indiana Department of Health.

Over the past few days, all three counties have seen big jumps in 7-day positivity rates.

LaGrange County is scored at 1, still in the yellow, but saw a 7-day positivity rate of 11.0 on Friday, according to state data.

Indiana reports that 1.5 million residents are now fully-vaccinated against COVID-19.

Steuben County reports 33.1 percent of its population fully vaccinated, and LaGrange County has the lowest total with 17.3 percent.
