Four new COVID-19 deaths were reported in Allen County on Wednesday, bringing the total to 710 of those residents claimed by the virus.

An additional death was reported in Whitley County, bringing that county’s total to 46.

Mayor Tom Henry’s wife, Cindy, has also tested positive for the virus. City officials announced Tuesday that Henry had tested positive as well. Both are experiencing mild symptoms and are fully-vaccinated.

Most of northeast Indiana is now in the “orange,” the state’s second-worst category for community spread based on cases per 100,000 residents and 7-day positivity rates.

Allen County recorded 262 new cases of the virus, among 3,558 reported statewide on Wednesday.

The state’s 7-day positivity rate is at 10.5 percent, while northeast Indiana’s is at 11.4 percent.

Northeast Indiana only  has 14.3 percent of its ICU capacity available, with more than 22 percent of the beds occupied by COVID patients.

There are more than 3 million Hoosiers vaccinated, about 51.6 percent of the population.
